Atomic Bomb Monument
Built on March 22, 1966, by NHK Hiroshima, the Atomic Bomb Monument was originally located at the site of former Hiroshima Central Broadcasting Station (present NHK Hiroshima) in Nobori-cho, approximately 1 km from the hypocenter. At the time of the bombing, 34 of the 260 employees would lose their lives and the building itself sustained catastrophic damages.
Despite these losses, broadcasting resumed the very next day using a facility that managed to escape damage. In 1960, the station was relocated to its present home in Ote-machi, and the monument followed in 1994 when the station was rebuilt.
