西平和大橋
  • The West Peace Bridge

The name “West Peace Bridge” (Nishi Heiwa Ōhashi) was chosen in a public naming contest in November 1951, along with “Peace Boulevard” (Heiwa Ōdōri). The handrails on West Peace Bridge and Peace Bridge to its east were designed by American sculptor Isamu Noguchi (1904-1988). The bridges were completed in March 1952.

    Take the 1 streetcar line bound for Hiroshima Port (Hiroshima-kō // 広島港) and get off at Fukuro-machi (袋町); it's a seven minute walk from there. Or, take the 2 or 6 streetcar line (bound for Miyajima-guchi (宮島口) and Eba (江波), respectively) and get off at Dobashi (土橋); it's about a five minute walk from there.
