Peace Cairn (Stone Monument of Peace)
Presented to the youth of Hiroshima from the youth of Fort William in Scotland and Dudley in Great Britian in 1972, the Peace Cairn is comprised of seven slabs of local Hiroshima granite cut in the shape of the seven deltas of Hiroshima City. In the center are two stone plaques cut from Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK, inscribed in English and Japanese with the declaration that the stones are "...a symbol of goodwill and desire for reconciliation and world peace."
