Edion Peace Wing Hiroshima
Edion Peace Wing Hiroshima opened in February 2024 as a new Hiroshima landmark. Long-awaited by Hiroshima soccer fans, this new stadium is home to pro soccer teams Sanfrecce Hiroshima and Sanfrecce Hiroshima Regina.
The impetus for the construction of the stadium was the J. League Club Licensing System, established in 2012, which emphasized the need for new stadiums. In the same year, Sanfrecce Hiroshima became J. League champions for the first time, building even more momentum for the construction of a new stadium. As a result of many discussions thereafter, it was decided that the new stadium would be built on the grounds of Chūō Park. With a partial roof, this world-class stadium is the first stadium of its kind to be built in a downtown area in all of Japan.
Chūō Park is located upon the Axis Line of Peace1, part of the reconstruction plan for Hiroshima created by architect Kenzō Tange. In his original plan, Tange envisioned the construction of a sports stadium in Chūō Park, and today, Peace Wing has brought that vision to life. If Peace Memorial Park is a place to pray for peace, then Edion Peace Wing Hiroshima is a place to take joy in peace, as well as create peace through sports and cultural events.
The stadium is a hub that spreads peace through the Hiroshima Soccer Museum, Peace Wall, and more. It is a place where prefectural and city citizens can come together, where community and international togetherness through soccer is encouraged, revitalizing the whole of Hiroshima Prefecture.
1Axis Line of Peace: When Tange designed Peace Memorial Park, he placed landmarks such as the Peace Memorial Museum, the Cenotaph for the A-Bomb Victims, and the Atomic Bomb Dome along a single imaginary line running from north to south.
■Hiroshima Soccer Museum
With peace as its central theme, the museum uses video footage and chronological tables to explain the history of Hiroshima from the atomic bombing to recovery, as well as its historical connections to soccer and the city’s bright future. It also features exhibits on the history of the Sanfrecce soccer club, such as trophies and uniforms through the ages, as well as permanent interactive exhibits where visitors can try their hand at various soccer techniques. This museum is for anyone and everyone to experience the joy of the beautiful game.

■PEACE WING PROJECT ONE
In Hiroshima, an international peace culture city, Sanfrecce Hiroshima and companies/individuals who endorse the project come together as one to proudly promote activities that spread peace to the world.
Serving as project captain for Project One is Yōichi Takahashi, artist of the world-renowned soccer manga Captain Tsubasa. He was commissioned to create Peace Wall, an original manga illustration exhibited at the 2nd floor back stand of Edion Peace Wing Hiroshima. The wall features a scene in which Captain Tsubasa protagonist, Tsubasa Ōzora, gives a speech dubbed the Soccer World Peace Declaration, spreading the message of peace in Japan and abroad.
