Ruins of the Chugoku Regional Military Headquarters Air Defense Room
Located near Hiroshima Castle in Moto-machi, this semi-basement room is all that remains of the Chugoku Regional Military Headquarters' Air Defense Operation Center. Here, girls from the local Hijiyama Girls High School worked alongside military and civilian personnel during the war. It is said that the very first news of the bombing of Hiroshima came from this basement room, communicated via military telephone by one of the high school students.
