エノキ(幟町中学校校庭)(被爆樹木)
  • Japanese Hackberry (Noboricho Junior High School)

In the grounds of Nobori-cho Junior High School are two Japanese hackberry trees, with respective heights of 12 and 20 meters, and trunk circumferences of 3.00 and 5.60 meters. Sadako Sasaki, who served as the impetus to build the Children's Peace Monument, went to this junior high school. One of the trees was damaged in the bombing and has a large gash. The other appears to have healed naturally, but is still scarrd.
