  • Kurogane Holly (Hiroshima Castle)

After the Sino-Japanese War in 1894, when the Imperial Headquarters were located inside of Hiroshima Castle grounds, these kurogane holly trees were planted in the front garden of the Imperial Headquarters. They were exposed to the bombing at a distance of 910 meters from the hypocenter. Three of the trees managed to survive, growing to heights of 10, 6, and 8 meters, respectively.
