シダレヤナギ(青少年センター西側本川沿い)(被爆樹木)
  • Weeping Willow (Moto-machi)

On the west side of the Hiroshima City Youth Center, along the bank of the Honkawa River, is a weeping willow that stands 5.5 meters tall with a trunk circumference of 2.50 meters. Among the hibaku trees which survive today, this tree stood closest to the hypocenter at a distance of 370 meters. Its trunk was almost completely burned away; however, the roots managed to survive, and from them, new buds began to grow, becoming the grand tree you see today.
