Kurogane Holly (Rai Sanyō Memorial Museum)
This kurogane holly tree stood in the gardens of the of the Rai Sanyō Memorial Museum, originally built in October 1935 and remodeled in 1995. Just 410 meters from the hypocenter, the tree was rendered to nothing more than a stump in the August 6 bombing. Despite the heavy damages sustained, the tree began to sprout anew five years later in 1950, and is now over 5 meters tall.
