栗原貞子詩碑
  • Sadako Kurihara Monument

Sadako Kurihara wrote this poem based on actual events on August 6: a survivor of the atomic bombing, who was seeking refuge in the basement of the Hiroshima Branch Building of the Postal Savings Office, suddenly went into labor and a midwife on the verge of death risked her life to help deliver the baby safely. The midwife, mother, and child featured in this poem all survived.
